Today is June 10, 2023 the graves of 215 children were released in May of 2021. two years a later this is the number everyone has remembered. This is the one with significance. as of today's date the official number of identified grave sites is 2, 416 with an additional 151 confirmed confirmed human remains. Experts (survivors and commissioners who have researched the residential school systems in canada) estimate that the real number is somewhere between 10 and 15 thousand. ground searches are ongoing and trauma is repeating itself on a regular basis as communities grieve the unmistakable reality this is bringing up. and yet... we remember 215. and for many that's where it ends.
